LUÍS CASTRO
Director | Actor | Producer
Born in Nampula, Mozambique in 1961, Luís graduated in Veterinary Medicine in 1984 and completed a course in Italian Language and Culture in 1990. His art studies included various workshops and internships. He attended the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema in Lisbon, followed a theatre course at the Universidade Técnica of Lisbon, regularly attended the Actor's Centre in London and studied classical singing. He is fluent in portuguese, english, french, italian and spanish and has been working professionally as an actor since 1987.
Luis Castro has been creating and directing Perfinst (working concept combining  the performing arts with the fine arts) performances since 1996, the most important being Comb, Paz 29, Pecado, Moç†Amor, Portucalidades, Lopano, António Marinheiro, Velando, Titus, Restitus, Yerma, OPNI’s, Visões Sobre Cemitério de Pianos, A Torre de La Défense, the award-winning  Húmus (2010), Frida Frida, O Convento, Ilhas e Conceito Arquivo Museu. He continues to lecture at the Escola Superior de Dança in Lisbon, at the Escola Superior de Artes e Design in Caldas da Rainha and at the Instituto de Criatividade, Artes e Novas Tecnologias Restart in Lisbon. Founder and Board Director of  KARNART C. P. O. A. A. since its beginning in May 2001.


VEL Z
Visual Artist
Graduated in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, in London, England, (1997-2001). Digital Image Creator, freelance Illustration and Design mostly from photographs taken by himself and digitally manipulated. Vel Z has created posters, postcards, programmes, etc. to publicise a wide range of artistic events. He is a founding member and sits on the board of KARNART C. P. O. A. A. Collaborating in the creation of shows and images for visual communication, graphic design, photography, video, styling, sound and performance.


MARIA CAMPOS
Photographer
Born in 1955, in Chaves. Maria began working as a photographer in Switzerland, where she collaborated with German photographer Michael Ende with whom she continues to work regularly. She has also worked with the weekly journals Tages Anzeiger Magazin and the Zurich Tagblat and was photographer for  Zofinger Tagblat and Aargauer Tagblat newspapers. She collaborated with the Mad Theater in Bern and also participated in various group exhibitions at the Ochsen Cultur Ferein in Zofingen. She has photographed many theatrical plays and worked for many magazines. She is also an associate founder of KARNART C. P. O. A. A. and has documented their work.


ISABEL GAIVÃO
Actor
Born in 1963. Isabel completed her Acting Studies in 1988 at the  Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema in Lisbon. In 1991 she took  various  courses at the Herbert Berghof Studio in New York namely “Playwright”, Make Up” and Improvisation”. Amongst her television work special mention goes to her participation in the soap opera “Passerelle” in 1989 for which she received the “Sete de Ouro” (Newcomer/Television). In Cinema she has participated in several short films by Paulo Abreu and in Theatre she works regularly with directors Luís Castro (KARNART) and Alexandre Lyra Leite (Inestética Companhia Teatral). She is also a part of the children´s project “Histórias Magneticas” led by jazz musician Sérgio Pelágio. A member of Karnart since 2002.


PEDRO OLIVEIRA
Born in 1965 is a musician, composer and music producer since 1983. He graduated in law from the Faculty of Law of Lisbon in 1990 and completed a post graduate in law of communication at the Faculty of law of Coimbra. Collaborates with GDA, Management of Rights of Artists since its inception in 1995, currently performing the General Director functions. A member of Karnart since 2002.


ANABELA CARVALHO
Media Consultant
Born in Lisbon, 1971. Anabela graduated in Media Studies in 1994 from the Universidade Autónoma of Lisbon. She joined the Gabinete de Comunicação Social at the Lisbon Town Hall in 1993, where she successfully became a Senior Technician in Social Media. In July 2003 she was nominated Division Leader in Communication and Image of the Council where she remained until May 2011. Since September 2011 she has  been a Media Consulant at the União das Cidades Capitais de Língua Portuguesa (UCCLA), an international organisation  with the Town Hall. A board Member of KARNART since 2012.

GIL MENDO
Choreographer and Teacher
Born in Oeiras in 1946, Gil is currently Coordinator and teacher in the Degree Course in Dance – Interpretation/Creativity and Erasmus Coordinator of Escola Superior de Dança of Instituto Politécnico of Lisbon. He is the Dance Curator for Culturgest. An honorary member of KARNART since 2002.


MARIA DO ROSÁRIO MAIA
Artist and Teacher
Born in Lourenço Marques, Mozambique. Studied Painting at the Escola Superior de Belas Artes in Lisbon. Graduated in Visual and Technological at the Escola Superior de Educação of Lisbon. Curator at the Museu Nacional do Azulejo and responsible for their Educational Sector. She collaborated with the Secretary Coordinator of Multicultural Education of the Ministério da Educação and also worked as a designer at the Museu de Conímbriga. She has written and illustrated children’s books. As a teacher she has received many awards. An honorary member of KARNART since 2012.


GINA FLOR
Grows and studies in Toronto, Canada. As an adult returns to Portugal to study sculpture at the Fine Arts Faculty of the University of Lisbon. It is part of the Commissariat of Porto Santo Biennial, and is co-founder of the cultural association Cardinal five, which also features art projects of his own. Collaborates and participates in activities aimed at adults and children, developing artistic workshops and collaborating with institutions of social solidarity. Participates and develops projects in the field of plastic expression, especially towards children. A member of Karnart since 2012.
